Today marks Day 86 of my new lifestyle. What started out to be a challenge to see how long I would NOT eat animal based products like; meat, cheese, dairy, oil and processed foods is now a commitment. I had no preconceived notions about how this would pan out. How long would I stick with it and what would motivate me to keep going? Well let me tell you the rest of the story.
Two weeks into my Whole Food, Plant Based (WFPB) life I was generally feeling better. I had lost about 10 pounds and I didn’t have the normal aches and pains in my joints. At age 55, it used to take me 15 minutes to fully wake up and be active and alert in the morning, now I wake up full of life. My energy levels stay high all day!
I was expecting to crave all the foods I left behind, steak, cheeseburgers potato chips and ice cream; but the opposite happened. The smell and sight of these normally beloved foods no longer appeal to me. The longer I have been living a WFPB life the more this is true. I look forward to eating my steel cut oatmeal in the morning and veggie delight sandwiches for lunch.
The www.livingplantbased.com website that my brother Steve created has made this WFPB journey so much easier to live; access to many great tasting WFPB recipes makes cooking more enjoyable and doable day in and day out.
For nearly 90 days I have lived a WFPB lifestyle. It has definitely been a life changing experience for me. I have lost 22 pounds my blood pressure has significantly dropped into the excellent range. My mental acuity is high and accomplishing tasks seems to require less effort. Living a WFPB life has improved my quality of life. I know that it is doing the same things internally to my cells, arteries and organs. More to come on my WFPB life.
